HYBE faces criticism over significant gender pay gap

HYBE is facing significant criticism following reports revealing a substantial gender pay gap within the company. According to an analysis of financial reports by Asia Business Daily, male employees earn an average of 158 million won (approximately 110,000 euros) annually, while female employees earn an average of 49 million won (approximately 35,000 euros).

The disparity is particularly notable as women comprise more than two-thirds of HYBE’s workforce. Data suggests the gap has widened in recent years; while male salaries have increased, the average salary for female employees reportedly decreased by 6 million won compared to three years ago. In contrast, other major K-pop agencies, including SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, and JYP Entertainment, show much smaller pay gaps and higher total wage allocations for women.

HYBE has contested these findings, stating that the perceived gap is a “statistical illusion” caused by exceptional compensation, such as stock options, granted to a small number of male executives.
