Hybrid Crane Commissioned at Gulfport Port to Serve Chemours Titanium Operations

SSA Marine and the Mississippi State Port Authority announced the commissioning of a Liebherr LHM 550 hybrid mobile harbor crane at the Port of Gulfport. The 124‑metric‑ton crane, the second of its type at the facility, will be powered via an electric connection funded by a US$1.6 million grant from the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s Strategic Multi‑Modal Investments Fund, matched in part by SSA Marine.

The crane’s primary role is to handle bulk ilmenite sand for The Chemours Company, delivering the raw material used in the production of white titanium dioxide pigment at Chemours’ DeLisle plant nearby. The investment is part of a broader effort to modernize cargo‑handling equipment and improve reliability for a strategically important industrial customer.

Representatives from SSA Marine, the Port of Gulfport, Chemours and the International Longshoremen’s Association marked the milestone, highlighting the shift toward electrified port operations and blended public‑private financing for U.S. port infrastructure.
