Hybrid vehicle market in Vietnam sees major price cuts and sales growth

The Vietnamese automotive market is experiencing a significant wave of price reductions and incentives for hybrid electric vehicles (HEV). Major manufacturers are offering discounts, registration fee support, and interest rate assistance to encourage the transition from traditional gasoline engines to eco-friendly technology.

In September, Toyota Vietnam increased incentives for the Yaris Cross HEV, offering 100% registration fee support, which reduces the effective price to approximately 655 million VND. Honda Vietnam is also providing substantial discounts, with the HR-V e:HEV RS seeing price reductions through cash discounts and accessories that bring the effective cost below 800 million VND. Additionally, Omoda & Jaecoo are offering discounts exceeding 100 million VND on models like the Jaecoo J5.

According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), hybrid vehicle sales rose 65% in the first eight months of 2026 compared to the previous year, with 13,889 units sold. Toyota currently dominates this segment with over 67% market share. These self-charging hybrids are gaining traction because they reduce emissions by over 50% compared to gasoline counterparts and do not require external charging infrastructure, making them a practical solution for fuel efficiency and energy security.
