Hybrid vehicle sales in India show 9% year-on-year decline

India's hybrid passenger vehicle segment recorded 8,918 units in September 2026, representing a 9% year-on-year decline compared to September 2025. Despite this overall contraction, interest remains across the SUV, MPV, and premium sedan categories.

Toyota continues to lead the market with the Innova Hycross and Urban Cruiser Hyryder occupying the top two positions. While the Hycross saw a significant 40% year-on-year decline in volume, the Hyryder recorded a 7% increase. Maruti Suzuki's Grand Vitara secured third place with 34% annual growth, and the Kia Sorento emerged as a new entry in the top five.

Other notable trends include growth for the Toyota Camry and Maruti Suzuki Invicto, while models like the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Honda City experienced declines.
