Hybrid Wind‑Solar‑Storage Projects Advance in Bolivia and Spain

A $200 million hybrid wind‑solar‑battery project named Parque Híbrido Eólico, Solar y Almacenamiento de Energía Las Quintas (PHLQ) has entered the environmental impact assessment stage in Bolivia. The 190.25 MW plant will combine 128 MW of wind power from 16 turbines, 62.25 MW of solar capacity across 107,772 photovoltaic panels, and lithium‑ion battery storage to balance generation, with construction slated for 24 months.

In Spain, EDP has completed the Iberian Peninsula’s first integrated hybrid facility in Tébar, Cuenca. The 122 MW complex merges a 49.5 MW wind farm, a 36 MW solar farm and a 36 MW lithium‑ion battery system (72 MWh), supported by a €6.2 million grant from the EU Next Generation program. The plant provides grid inertia and flexibility, enabling more electricity to be injected without new transmission lines.
