Hyderabad authorities prepare IDL Lake for Ganesh idol immersion
Authorities in Hyderabad are intensifying preparations for the Ganesh idol immersion festivities. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) is conducting large-scale excavation at IDL Lake in Kukatpally to facilitate the process and aid long-term restoration.
HYDRAA has removed over 20 feet of silt and hazardous waste, including plastic, plaster of Paris, and coconut fibre, which had accumulated at the bottom of the lake over several decades. Commissioner AV Ranganath stated that the agency is removing lakhs of tonnes of waste daily and aims to complete the restoration of the 72-acre lake following the festival.
In a separate coordination meeting, Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar issued directives to ensure safe procession routes. These instructions include the immediate removal of loose electrical and internet wires, ensuring adequate height clearance, and verifying that Ganesh mandap organisers have proper electrical earthing and approvals.
