Hyderabad auto driver beaten to death over fare dispute
A 42-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, Mohammed Mukarram, was allegedly beaten to death following a dispute over change for a fare in the Vattepally area of Hyderabad on Sunday evening.
The incident began when a passenger offered a 200-rupee note for a fare of approximately 20 rupees. When Mukarram stated he did not have change, an argument ensued. Mukarram was later reportedly lured to a hotel under the pretense of settling the issue, where he was met by a group of men.
Witnesses and family members stated that Mukarram, who suffered from epilepsy, experienced a seizure during the assault, yet the attackers allegedly continued to strike him. He was declared dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital.
Police have registered a case at the Falaknuma police station and have taken two suspects, identified as Azeem and Shoaib, into custody. Investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals involved in the attack. Local leaders from the AIMIM have called for increased police patrolling in the area due to rising crime rates.
