Hyderabad building owner arrested after fatal construction collapse
Syed Sajid, the owner of a building under construction in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, has been arrested by Cyberabad police. Sajid was apprehended at the Hyderabad International Airport while allegedly attempting to flee the country.
The arrest follows a structural collapse two days ago that resulted in the deaths of two migrant workers, Umesh Khare and Mopeth, and left three others injured. Investigations revealed that the seven-story structure was built illegally on a 50-square-yard plot, violating regulations by encroaching on 10 square yards of adjacent drainage land.
Authorities from the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) and the Hyderabad Disaster Management and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) conducted a joint operation to demolish a nearby apartment complex damaged by the collapse. In response to the incident, the CMC Commissioner suspended a town planning officer for failing to take action against the unauthorized construction. Police are currently searching for the contractor, Khwaja Moinuddin.
