Hyderabad Cricket Association faces ₹92 crore fraud investigation
The Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) has filed an 80-page preliminary chargesheet alleging that the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) suffered financial losses of approximately ₹92.08 crore. The investigation focuses on irregularities occurring during the tenure of former office-bearers, including former president Arshanapally Jagan Mohan Rao, former secretary Devaraj Ramchander, former treasurer C. Jagannath Srinivasa Rao, and CEO Sunil Kante.
Forensic audits and statements from 63 witnesses suggest that while the HCA received ₹257.12 crore in revenue—including ₹211.98 crore in grants from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)—the association incurred massive losses through unauthorized expenditure and questionable contracts. Specific allegations include the awarding of contracts worth ₹8.86 crore without public tenders, discrepancies in international match ticket sales valued at ₹14.01 crore, and procedural violations regarding tender operations.
The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) has stated that this chargesheet should not be the conclusion of the investigation. The TCA is calling for further probes into wider allegations, including large-scale financial irregularities, parallel society registrations affecting electoral legitimacy, and the potential exposure of sensitive player information through improper verification procedures.
