Hyderabad cyber fraud prompts police to restore Rs 27.38 lakh to victims

A fraudster posing as an Anti‑Corruption Bureau officer called a revenue inspector in Siddipet district, threatening a raid and demanding payment. The inspector transferred ₹96,000 before realizing the deception and reported the crime to police, who opened an investigation to trace the culprit.

The following day, the Cyberabad Cyber Crimes Police conducted a Mega Grievance Redressal Drive, using the Ministry of Home Affairs' Money Restoration Module (MRM) to return ₹27.38 lakh to 126 victims of cybercrime. The drive resolved 23 grievances related to frozen or held bank accounts and processed funds from roughly 885 accounts. The MRM allows investigators to restore amounts up to ₹50,000 without a court order, speeding relief for victims.
