Hyderabad Disaster Response Agency Land Dispute Draws Army and Court Intervention

Senior Indian Army officials, led by Lieutenant Colonel Jai Singh, filed a petition with HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath alleging that an unauthorized G+2 building was being constructed on A‑1 defence land in GLR Survey No. 507 at Qutbullapur, Medchal‑Malkajgiri district. HYDRAA ordered a field inspection to verify the encroachment and promised action after verification.

In a separate case, HYDRAA fenced 106 acres of land at Lothukunta, Secunderabad cantonment, prompting the Telangana High Court to warn the agency of illegal interference with private property. The court directed the Indian Army to guard the disputed area and cautioned that the HYDRAA commissioner could be taken into custody for defying orders. HYDRAA clarified that the fenced parcels (GLR 243 and 255) are government land, distinct from the private land (Survey 1 and 2) claimed by Shanta Sriram Constructions, and cited environmental concerns over illegal mining on the government hills.
