Hyderabad family calls for abolition of NEET exam

The family of Juveriya, an 18-year-old medical aspirant from Hyderabad, is calling for the abolition of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) following her death by suicide in June.

In a report released on August 26, Juveriya’s parents, Abdul Rehman and Ruksana Begum, joined student activists and journalists to highlight the intense pressure faced by medical aspirants. The family noted that Juveriya was a high-achieving student who had significantly improved her NEET scores through dedicated study. However, following the exposure of paper leaks, her May examination results were deemed invalid, leading to a scheduled retest.

The family is appealing to civil society and political parties to address the systemic issues within the medical entrance examination process.
