Hyderabad food establishments face licence suspensions over hygiene violations

Authorities from the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) have suspended the food safety licences of four establishments in Hyderabad following inspections of 13 hotels and canteens. The inspections, conducted by teams of food safety officers and police, revealed significant hygiene violations including cockroach and rodent infestations, stagnant water, and unhygienic kitchen conditions.

The suspended establishments include NR’s Nandini Sudha in Chikkadpally, Sai Darshini and Universal Restaurant in Venkat Rao Nagar, and Harsha Deluxe Mess in Ameerpet. Additionally, Padmashree Canteen at the IACG Hostel Mess was ordered to shut down for allegedly operating without an FSSAI licence.

During the drive, officials collected 16 food samples for testing due to suspected adulteration. Investigators also flagged the potential misuse of the FSSAI Tatkal licensing provision, noting that some businesses may have obtained licences under the petty retailer category instead of the required restaurant category. Seven other establishments are expected to receive show-cause notices regarding identified violations.
