Hyderabad fraudster Surya Kumar arrested over gold scam

Police in Hyderabad arrested Surya Kumar, also known as Surya Bhai or “Gold Man”, after he allegedly duped victims of about Rs 30 lakh by promising imported gold at prices lower than market rates. Victims from Himayatnagar and Niloufer reported paying large sums and, when the gold was not delivered, the suspect threatened them and handed over three iPhones allegedly worth Rs 10 lakh, also issuing a Rs 20 lakh cheque.

Investigators said Kumar claimed to be a close aide of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar to gain trust. He was detained near Shadnagar while trying to flee the city and is now being questioned. Earlier, he had drawn attention from the Income‑Tax department for wearing imitation gold ornaments while claiming a wealth of over Rs 1.3 crore. He runs a wholesale chicken centre, works as a personal trainer, and is involved in land settlements.
