Hyderabad initiates major urban infrastructure and connectivity projects

Hyderabad is advancing two significant infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving urban mobility and power reliability.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) is conducting a techno-economic feasibility study to introduce a Personal Rapid Transit System (PRTS). Proposed under a public-private partnership model, the system aims to solve last-mile connectivity challenges for Metro commuters and reduce road congestion. The project follows directives from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to find sustainable solutions for high-density activity centers.

Simultaneously, the state government is launching a ₹5,756-crore project to replace overhead power lines with an underground cable network in the Hyderabad Metro Zone. Starting in the new year, the first phase will cover 11 divisions across four circles, including Banjara Hills and Secunderabad. The two-year project, supervised by TGSPDCL, involves laying thousands of kilometers of underground cables and installing SCADA-based units to enable remote monitoring and faster fault identification. The network is designed to meet the city's power distribution needs for at least the next 30 years.
