Hyderabad police arrest man for impersonating Rahul Gandhi's aide

Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have arrested 45-year-old Gaurav Kumar for allegedly impersonating Kanishka Singh, an aide to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Kumar was brought to Hyderabad from Patiala’s Central Prison in Punjab via a production transit warrant.

The investigation began following a complaint by All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary Jetti Kusuma Kumar. The complainant alleged that the accused used WhatsApp calls and messages to pose as Singh, offering political favors, positions, and other benefits in exchange for money. While the identity was misused, police noted that the complainant did not lose any money in the reported incident.

Kumar is described as a habitual offender. He was already in custody in Punjab facing separate charges related to the possession of forged currency. He faces charges in Hyderabad under the Information Technology Act for identity theft and cheating by personation, as well as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
