Hyderabad police arrest man for murder of school housekeeper

Police in Hyderabad’s Meerpet suburb have arrested a man for the murder of a 60-year-old housekeeping worker, Chintoju Prakruthamma. The victim, who worked at Panchajanya School in Badangpet, was reported missing on August 18.

Following a missing person’s complaint filed by the victim's daughter, investigators used CCTV footage to track the case. On August 21, authorities discovered Prakruthamma’s body inside a bundle in a water sump at an under-construction building adjacent to the school.

The suspect, identified as Prakash Murugan, a local chips shop operator, was apprehended on August 22. Murugan reportedly confessed to the killing, stating he committed the crime to steal the victim’s gold earrings. Investigations revealed the suspect was facing significant financial distress due to personal debts and unpaid shop rent.
