Hyderabad police constable dies by suicide during video call
A 35-year-old police constable, Muthe Chandrasekhar, died by suicide at his residence in Shalivahana Nagar, Hyderabad, on a Sunday night. According to police, Chandrasekhar, who served as a writer at the Malakpet Police Station, allegedly informed a woman of his intention to end his life during a video call.
Local authorities, including the Chaitanyapuri and Malakpet police, responded to the scene, but the constable had already passed away. His body was moved to Osmania General Hospital for a postmortem examination. Investigators are currently examining the circumstances of the death and the nature of his relationship with the woman involved in the call.
This incident follows a series of suicides among police personnel in Telangana. Director General of Police C. V. Anand recently appealed to the state's 93,000 police officers to seek help for personal or financial difficulties rather than resorting to suicide. Officials noted that debt resulting from online betting has been a primary driver for such incidents among personnel over the past four months.
