Hyderabad Police detain Nepal-based suspect in murder case

Hyderabad Police have detained 29-year-old Sunil Bahadur Aauji, also known as Sunil Pariyar, under the Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, 1986. Aauji, a native of Nepal and resident of Navi Mumbai, is accused in a murder-for-gain case involving the killing of Tanuja Ranjan, the wife of retired IPS officer Ray Vinay Ranjan.

Authorities allege that Aauji and his associates conspired to trespass into the victim's residence, where they restrained and suffocated the 62-year-old woman before stealing gold ornaments and other valuables. Aauji was originally arrested on May 22 and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

Police noted that Aauji is also linked to two other criminal cases registered in Gujarat and Maharashtra in 2024. The decision to apply the Preventive Detention Act was made by the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, due to the gravity of the offenses and the threat posed to public order.
