Hyderabad police dismantle large interstate ganja trafficking network

The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) busted an extensive interstate cannabis syndicate that operated through India’s postal speed‑post system. The ring, led by Satyam Misra of Jharkhand, cultivated and sourced ganja in villages and shipped parcels—often misdeclared as medicines—to customers in at least 21 states, including Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi and Bengaluru. Police intercepted parcels at Isri Bazar and Phusro post offices, arrested Misra and two Hyderabad buyers, seized 2 kg of ganja and recorded daily earnings of roughly ₹1 million. The investigation exposed a structured network that used WhatsApp for orders and digital payments, moving 80–100 orders per day.

In parallel, Telangana authorities reported that 204 students have been booked in NDPS cases from January to June 2026, averaging nearly 40 students per month. Police note many begin with ganja before progressing to harder drugs. The Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) is intensifying demand‑side interventions, referring hundreds of students to de‑addiction centres and conducting family follow‑ups to curb substance abuse among youth.
