Hyderabad Police introduce electric vehicles and women-led motorcycle patrols
The Hyderabad City Police have launched new initiatives to enhance field patrolling and community engagement. The department has expanded the role of women in frontline policing through a motorcycle patrolling initiative in the Khairatabad zone. Under this program, one woman police constable from each station has been trained to conduct regular field patrols, moving beyond traditional station-based duties to increase visibility and accessibility.
Additionally, the police fleet has been bolstered by the addition of 15 electric vehicles (EVs). Seven of these vehicles are designated for special response teams focused on protecting women, children, and the elderly, while eight are for general law and order duties. These EVs feature a 40 kilowatt-hour battery capacity and a range of up to 468 km per charge.
Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar noted that the Spandana response vehicles, which include a woman driver, a civilian woman constable, and an armed reserve woman constable, operate round the clock. In the previous 185 days, these teams have attended to 8,903 complaints, resolving a significant portion through counseling and mediation.
