Hyderabad police launch crackdown on overstaying foreign nationals

Hyderabad police, in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) and the Special Branch, have launched a major operation to identify foreign nationals overstaying visas or violating immigration rules. The joint search operation, which began on August 31, has identified 49 individuals staying illegally. Of these, 12 have already been deported, and the process for the remaining individuals is ongoing.

During the investigation, authorities uncovered several instances of illegal activity involving foreign nationals. These include the circulation of counterfeit currency, cheating, and drug-related offenses, such as the seizure of 250 grams of ganja and the discovery of Alprazolam tablets being mixed into cough syrup. Some individuals who entered on student visas were found to be working as unauthorized translators and intermediaries for foreign patients in hospitals, allegedly collecting service charges and commissions of approximately 15 percent on hospital bills.

Other findings included a Kenyan woman on a tourist visa allegedly involved in prostitution and South Sudanese nationals who tested positive for cannabis. The highest number of cases were recorded in the Tolichowki area, with additional cases in Langar House and Mehdipatnam. Police have advised landlords and accommodation providers to strictly verify the passports and documentation of foreign guests.
