Hyderabad police officer dies after hit-and-run during Ganesh duty

K. Venkanna, a 55-year-old Sub-Inspector (SI) from the Kothagudem II Town Police Station, has died following a hit-and-run incident in Hyderabad. Venkanna was deployed to Hyderabad for Ganesh immersion duty, stationed at NTR Marg near Hussain Sagar Lake.

In the early hours of Wednesday, a speeding motorcyclist struck Venkanna while he was crossing the road with another official. The rider fled the scene immediately after the collision. Although Venkanna initially believed his injuries were minor and visited the Saifabad Police Station to lodge a complaint, his condition deteriorated after he returned to his village in the Warangal district.

Upon developing giddiness and worsening symptoms, he was admitted to MGM Hospital in Warangal, where doctors discovered a blood clot in his brain. He succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday evening. Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and investigating the motorcycle to identify and locate the fleeing rider.
