Hyderabad protesters remove Tank Bund barricades over Ganesh immersion restrictions
Members of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi removed iron barricades at Tank Bund in Hyderabad on Monday, September 21. The barricades had been installed to restrict devotees from performing Ganesh idol immersions at the site.
Protesters raised slogans against the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), alleging a failure to make adequate arrangements for the festival. During the incident, one member sat on the railing to remove a barricade, prompting police intervention. To prevent the situation from escalating, authorities took the protesters into preventive custody and moved them from the location.
Devotees expressed confusion regarding the restrictions, noting that similar issues occur annually during the immersion process. Observers suggested that the police department, GHMC, and festival organizers should establish a coordinated action plan well in advance to ensure smooth arrangements and avoid such confrontations.
