Hyderabad Search Continues for 70-Year-Old Man Swept Away in Open Manhole

On the night of July 28, a 70‑year‑old man identified as Balaiah (also reported as Balayya), a resident of Prem Nagar in Hafizpet, fell into an uncovered manhole near the Vaishali Nagar underpass in Hyderabad’s Miyapur area during heavy rain. The flood‑water swept him away, prompting police, the Disaster Response Force and civic authorities to launch an intensive search in the drainage line.

Officials said the manhole had been left open as part of ongoing drainage repairs. MLA Arekapudi Gandhi visited the site and urged officials to expedite the rescue effort. The search remained ongoing at the time of reporting.

Separate reports from the same period noted that three youths drowned in the Sri Ram Sagar Project in Nizamabad district, with a fourth person still missing and the recovered bodies sent for post‑mortem examination.
