Hyderabad seeks to become global knowledge hub via US and UK university partnerships

The Telangana government is working to establish Hyderabad as a global knowledge hub through strategic partnerships with prominent universities in the United States and the United Kingdom. Following a recent visit by the ‘Telangana Rising’ delegation to the US and UK, several major institutions have expressed interest in expanding their presence in the city.

Northeastern University is exploring the establishment of an offshore campus at Bharat Future City, while the University of London is considering setting up its first Indian offshore campus in Hyderabad. Additionally, Harvard University has agreed to provide executive education programmes for senior government officials and corporate professionals through the Dr MCR HRD Institute, with sessions expected to begin in November.

Other institutions involved in discussions include Oxford University, which is looking into shared research centres and Centres of Excellence, as well as the London School of Economics (LSE), the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), MIT, Cambridge University, Imperial College London, and Virginia Tech. These initiatives aim to leverage Hyderabad’s existing strengths in IT, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, and defence to create an international centre for research, skilling, and higher education.
