Hyderabad sees heavy crowds for Ganesh idol immersion at Hussain Sagar

Large crowds gathered in Hyderabad for the immersion of Ganesh idols in Hussain Sagar Lake over the weekend. The celebrations involved a wide range of idols, from small household versions to large pandal idols transported on decorated trucks.

To manage the festivities, city authorities implemented safety measures including the deployment of expert swimmers, disaster response teams, and lifesavers along the shoreline. Heavy cranes and multi-tier barricades were also utilized to support the immersion process. The high volume of vehicles and processions led to significant traffic congestion in areas such as Khairatabad, NTR Marg, People’s Plaza, the Secretariat, and Tank Bund.

Hussain Sagar, a historic artificial lake constructed in 1562 during the reign of Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah, serves as a major landmark in the city. It is known for its large Buddha statue and its role as a central site for religious and recreational activities.
