Hyderabad cab driver accused of attempted assault and robbery

A 38-year-old woman was allegedly subjected to an attempted sexual assault and robbed of Rs 60,000 by a cab driver near Shamshabad, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The incident occurred on the night of September 26 near the Kothwalguda service road.

The victim, a resident of Nalgonda, reported that she had boarded a taxi in Jadcherla to travel to Hyderabad. According to the FIR filed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) Police Station, the driver stopped the vehicle at a medical shop on the ORR service road before pulling over in a deserted area near Kothwalguda. The driver allegedly attempted to molest the woman, who managed to escape by raising an alarm. The suspect then fled the scene with her bag containing the cash.

Police have registered a case under Sections 74, 318(4), and 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Special teams have been formed to track down the driver. The incident took place in an area that gained national attention in 2019 due to the Disha case, though authorities noted there is no connection between the two events.
