Hyderabad Zoo sees record attendance and plans exotic animal arrivals
Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad experienced a significant surge in visitors, recording 20,483 attendees on Sunday, October 18. This spike in attendance coincides with the final days of the Dasara school holidays.
To manage the crowds, zoo authorities have increased ticket counters and deployed additional security personnel. The facility currently houses 2,178 animals across 196 species, including mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians.
In an effort to expand its collection, the zoo is coordinating with Vantara, a wildlife conservation centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, to introduce several exotic species. Planned arrivals include a pair of kangaroos, wallabies, ring-tailed lemurs, and a cassowary. These species have not been part of the zoo's collection for over two decades. Following their arrival, the animals will undergo a 30-to-45-day quarantine period before being displayed to the public.
