Hyderabad's HYDRAA reports Rs 1.10 lakh‑crore asset protection as monsoon floods expose drainage gaps

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) said it has safeguarded public land worth about Rs 1.10 lakh crore in its first 23 months and aims to protect an additional Rs 1 lakh crore this year. Commissioner AV Ranganath, IPS, told a Realtors Summit that the agency’s actions were not responsible for the slowdown in the real‑estate market, which he attributed to broader economic factors such as employment and salary trends.

At the same time, municipal officials warned that HYDRAA and the city’s corporation remain ill‑prepared for this year’s monsoon. Incomplete storm‑water drains, uncleared nalas, inadequate desilting and garbage dumping have left 535 water‑logging points across Hyderabad’s core urban region. Recent rains caused knee‑deep water in Gachibowli’s Lumbini Avenue and flooding near Kondapur Road, highlighting the city’s ongoing drainage challenges despite HYDRAA’s broader asset‑protection efforts.
