Hyderabad's HYDRAA restores Ramanthapur lake and reclaims encroached land

On June 18, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring Agency (HYDRAA) launched the second phase of restoration at Ramanthapur Pedda Cheruvu. The lake, originally covering 30 acres, had shrunk to 14 acres due to encroachments. HYDRAA removed 18 acres of illegally occupied land and plans to recommend 2‑bedroom houses for the 36 families displaced from huts near the lake.

HYDRAA officials also said they have protected assets worth roughly Rs 1.10 lakh crore from further encroachment, completing about 600 operations to date. The agency denied allegations of tender irregularities for monsoon‑season vehicle procurement, asserting a nine‑member committee of municipal representatives reviewed the process. HYDRAA Commissioner Ranganath emphasized the agency’s impartiality, rejecting political accusations and stating it will continue safeguarding government property regardless of party affiliations.
