Hydra trial: Collaborator details 'Ndrangheta ties and political links
During the Hydra trial in Milan, criminal collaborator Francesco Bellusci provided testimony regarding the operations of the 'Ndrangheta in Lombardy. The proceedings involve 45 defendants accused of forming an alliance between the 'Ndrangheta, Cosa Nostra, and Camorra to manage illicit activities in the region.
Bellusci testified to committing arson against two local police vehicles in 2014 to deter investigations into his activities. He also claimed he considered targeting a carabinieri officer but was dissuaded by his contact, Giacomo Cristello. Bellusci, who was formally affiliated with the Lonate Pozzolo 'Ndrangheta cell in 2017, stated he had been “feeding the mafia system” even prior to his official affiliation.
Further testimony highlighted connections between criminal figures and local politics. Bellusci identified Giuseppe Greco, a majority councilor in Buscate, as a close associate of Cristello who acted as an intermediary to prevent direct contact between high-ranking mob figures. Following these revelations, Greco announced his self-suspension from office as Carabinieri investigators examine his links to organized crime.
