HYDRAA clears 56 truckloads of silt from Hyderabad's Aghapura Nala

The Hyderabad Disaster Response Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) completed a week‑long manual desilting operation on the Aghapura Nala in the city's Darussalam area. Workers removed 56 truckloads of silt, plastic waste and household items such as mattresses, pillows, chairs and bedsheets that had blocked the flood‑water channel linking Mehdipatnam, Vijayanagar Colony, AC Guards, Mallepally and Nampally to the Musi River. Because the drain is too narrow for heavy machinery, HYDRAA’s Monsoon Emergency Teams and Disaster Response Force entered the nala on foot, using gloves, gumboots and masks, though some staff were seen without protective gear, drawing criticism on social media. The effort was supervised daily by RFO Jayaprakash and SFO B. Charan Kumar. After the clean‑up, the nala’s capacity to carry rainwater was restored, improving drainage for future heavy rains.
