Hydration requirements vary based on health and kidney function

Hydration requirements vary significantly based on individual health, age, activity levels, and environmental conditions. While the general recommendation for healthy adults is often cited as eight glasses or approximately two liters of water per day, this standard does not apply to everyone.

For individuals with kidney issues, water intake must be carefully managed. Those prone to kidney stones are generally encouraged to increase fluid intake to dilute substances that form crystals. Conversely, patients with advanced chronic kidney disease or those undergoing hemodialysis may need to strictly limit fluid intake to prevent fluid buildup in the body.

Factors such as body weight, climate, and physical activity also influence necessary hydration. Water is essential for regulating body temperature, supporting brain function, aiding digestion, and assisting the kidneys in filtering waste through urine.
