Hydrocarbon exploration expands in Greek waters

New activity is emerging in hydrocarbon exploration within Greek waters as two distinct seismic campaigns prepare for upcoming months.

A consortium consisting of Chevron and Helleniq Energy is advancing plans for four new maritime blocks. These include Block A2, the Southern Peloponnese, and two blocks in Southern Crete (Southern Crete 1 and Southern Crete 2). Andreas Siamisis, CEO of Helleniq Energy, noted that service providers for the seismic works have been selected, with research expected to commence in late 2026 or early 2027.

Concurrently, the Hellenic Seismological Data and Exploration Company (EDEYEP) is working to acquire new seismic data across broader maritime areas of Western Greece. This initiative aims to enrich the country's geological information and create conditions to attract new investors to the Greek upstream sector. Both processes are targeting 2027 as a key year for the primary phase of new data acquisition.
