Hydrogen energy sector sees technological and resource breakthroughs

The hydrogen energy sector is seeing advancements in both production technology and natural resource exploration. Power to Hydrogen (P2H2) has delivered its first commercial 0.5 MW Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolyzer from Ohio to the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in Belgium. The company’s modular platforms are designed to integrate with variable renewable power to make renewable hydrogen more cost-competitive by avoiding scarce materials like iridium.

Simultaneously, global efforts to locate geologic hydrogen are intensifying. Researchers in China have reported record-breaking hydrogen seepage in the Sichuan Basin, with purity levels between 97.33% and 98.24%. This follows a U.S. Department of Energy report estimating trillions of metric tons of natural hydrogen deposits exist globally. Other regions, including the Philippines, are also being identified as potential hotspots for commercially viable natural hydrogen extraction.
