Hydrogen industry expands presence in East Germany

The hydrogen industry is expanding its footprint in East Germany through new collaborative and technological developments. In Dresden, the first East German Hydrogen Congress has convened stakeholders from politics, business, and science to address the entire value chain, including production, storage, transport, and industrial application. The event aims to transform individual projects into a cohesive regional hydrogen market by fostering cooperation across state lines.

Simultaneously, Sunfire has broken ground on a new solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) test facility at the BASF site in Schwarzheide, located within the Lausitz Industrial Park. This facility is designed to validate Sunfire’s latest high-temperature electrolysis technology under real-world industrial conditions. By utilizing available waste heat, the SOEC technology aims to achieve high efficiency and reduce the production costs of green hydrogen, supporting the decarbonization of heavy industries such as chemicals, steel, and glass.
