Hygiene concerns raised over shopping baskets in Prijedor
Consumer advocates and medical specialists in Prijedor are raising concerns regarding hygiene practices in supermarkets. Murisa Marić, executive director of the “DON” Consumer Association, noted a decline in basic shopping etiquette, specifically regarding the handling of shopping baskets.
Experts warn that baskets frequently come into contact with dirty floors and public surfaces. This poses a health risk, as contaminants can be transferred to food items, particularly unpackaged goods like bread and produce. Gordana Kralj, a specialist in medical microbiology and parasitology, emphasized that shopping baskets can serve as pathways for infection if hygiene is not strictly maintained.
Retailers are responsible for the regular disinfection of equipment, with local inspection services conducting oversight to ensure compliance with hygiene standards.
