Hygiene recommendations for changing bed sheets

Maintaining regular bed sheet hygiene is essential to prevent the accumulation of bacteria, sweat, and dead skin cells. Research from Kingston University indicated that sheets unwashed for 35 days can contain staphylococci and fecal bacteria at concentrations similar to those found in uncleaned toilets.

Microbiologist Philip Tierno from New York University noted that biological residues become significant after just one week. Consequently, the French Society of Allergology recommends changing sheets weekly. However, experts suggest that changing them every two weeks may be acceptable if individuals shower before bed and wear pajamas to act as a filter for biological waste.
