Hyosung Heavy Industries opens new ultra-high voltage circuit breaker factory

Hyosung Heavy Industries has completed a new export-dedicated ultra-high voltage circuit breaker factory in Changwon, South Korea. The approximately 18,996 square meter facility is designed to produce 420kV, 550kV, and 800kV circuit breakers for international markets.

The new plant doubles the company’s production capacity for circuit breakers above 420kV and also doubles its capacity for producing essential insulating materials. The facility implements a ‘one-stop’ mass production system, covering everything from component production and assembly to testing and shipment.

This expansion aims to address the ‘AI infrastructure bottleneck,’ where the rapid growth of AI data centers is outstripping the development of global power grids. Hyosung Heavy Industries plans to leverage this new facility alongside existing production sites in India and the United States to expand its global market share. In Europe, the company will utilize its R&D center in the Netherlands to strengthen cooperation with local technical institutions.
