Hyosung Heavy Industries secures 386.5 billion won transformer deal with U.S. big tech
Hyosung Heavy Industries has secured contracts totaling approximately 386.5 billion won to supply ultra-high voltage transformers to two major U.S. big tech companies. These transformers, including 765kV and 345kV models, will be deployed in new AI data centers located in the northern and southern regions of the United States.
This development follows a strategic push by Hyosung Group Chairman Cho Hyun-jun to expand local production and solution systems in the U.S. to meet the surging demand for power infrastructure driven by the AI era. The company’s Memphis, Tennessee plant is expected to possess the largest ultra-high voltage transformer production capacity in the U.S. once current expansions are complete.
Hyosung Heavy Industries has also established a joint venture with Quanta Services to produce ultra-high voltage circuit breakers, completing a hardware foundation for its “total solution” strategy. To further target the global data center market, the company recently formed a specialized “Data Center Business Team” to integrate power equipment, energy storage systems (ESS), and microgrid solutions.
