Hyperbaric Medicine Center in Pará reaches 29,000 treatments

The Hyperbaric Medicine Center at the Hospital Metropolitano de Urgência e Emergência in Ananindeua, Pará, has reached a milestone of 29,044 treatments since its implementation in August 2024. Managed by INDSH for the Pará state government, the facility provides specialized, free therapy through the Unified Health System (SUS).

Between January and August 2026, the center recorded 9,933 treatments for patients regulated by the State Health Secretariat of Pará (Sespa). The center utilizes five individual hyperbaric chambers to treat conditions such as difficult-to-heal wounds, bacterial infections, and toxic substance neutralization by providing high concentrations of oxygen to facilitate tissue recovery.

Service coordinator Dielle Oliveira noted that the center ensures safe and free access to high-technology treatment regardless of a patient's socioeconomic status. This service is noted as being unprecedented within the SUS in Northern Brazil.
