Hyperglycemia risks and glucose management

Hyperglycemia, or high blood sugar, occurs when glucose remains in the bloodstream due to ineffective insulin function. If left unmanaged, this condition can lead to type 2 diabetes, vascular damage, kidney complications, and vision problems. Normal fasting glucose levels are typically between 70–99 mg/dL, while levels of 100–125 mg/dL indicate impaired fasting glucose, and levels ≥126 mg/dL are indicative of diabetes.

Common causes of elevated blood sugar include diets high in refined carbohydrates and simple sugars, physical inactivity, obesity, and chronic stress, which triggers cortisol and adrenaline. Metabolic conditions such as PCOS and hyperthyroidism also contribute to glucose imbalances.

Regarding viral social media trends, scientific evidence suggests that consuming diluted vinegar before meals rich in carbohydrates, such as pasta or bread, may have a limited effect on slowing glucose absorption. However, experts caution that vinegar is not a cure or prevention for diabetes and cannot fully negate glycemic spikes.
