Hyperliquid sees surge in open positions and prediction market volume

Hyperliquid has seen significant growth in its user base and trading infrastructure throughout 2024. The platform’s open perpetual futures positions have more than doubled since the start of the year, rising from approximately 202,943 to over 435,000 as of October 6. This growth is largely driven by new participants, as the number of active traders has also increased from roughly 155,000 in January to over 320,000.

In addition to its perpetual futures, Hyperliquid’s HIP-4 prediction-market system has recorded approximately $317 million in cumulative volume as of October 5. While the system has integrated event-based contracts into its existing trading environment, it currently trails larger rivals in terms of market variety, liquidity, and audience reach. Sports markets, particularly soccer, have been a primary driver of HIP-4 volume, accounting for $89.5 million of the total.

Despite the increase in open positions and active traders, daily trading volume has recently fallen below the levels seen in August, resulting in a thinner market with high leverage. Total perpetual open interest stands at approximately $17.29 billion, nearing its previous peak.
