Hypers Kids Africa apologizes for political crypto video

The Ugandan dance group Hypers Kids Africa has issued a public apology to Brazil following controversy surrounding promotional videos linked to a political cryptocurrency platform. The group, which maintains a social media presence with over 12 million followers, participated in an initiative by the Brasil 22 Token platform.

The platform offered digital tokens to users who shared messages such as ‘B22’ and other content associated with the presidential campaign of Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro. The initiative was described as a movement combining support for the ‘22 vote’ with efforts to raise funds to complete a house for the children in Kampala.

In an apology video posted to their Instagram profile, the group stated they were not involved in politics and had deleted the controversial content. They clarified that they were not paid by political actors, but had participated in the initiative to promote their own token to fund their housing needs. ‘We are not in politics, which is why we excluded the video and came to apologize,’ the group stated, adding, ‘Sorry, Brazil; we love you.’
