Hypertension cases in Vietnam lead to kidney failure and rare tumor diagnosis
Medical professionals in Vietnam have treated two distinct cases involving severe hypertension and its complications.
A 25-year-old male patient was admitted to Tam Anh General Hospital with stage 4-5 chronic kidney disease and severe heart failure. The patient had suffered from untreated hypertension since age 14 and struggled with severe obesity, reaching a BMI of 46.9. Following medical intervention involving diuretics, electrolyte adjustment, and dietary changes, the patient's blood pressure stabilized, and he experienced significant weight loss before being transferred for specialized renal care.
Separately, a 28-year-old pregnant woman at Hong Ngoc General Hospital was diagnosed with a rare renin-secreting juxtaglomerular cell tumor (JGCT) after experiencing uncontrollable hypertension, reaching levels of 210/120 mmHg. The condition, characterized by high renin and aldosterone levels alongside low potassium, is extremely rare, with fewer than 200 documented cases worldwide. A multidisciplinary medical team coordinated surgery to remove the tumor during her 13th week of pregnancy to mitigate risks to both mother and fetus.
