Hypertension management requires dietary changes and consistent monitoring

Hypertension remains a significant global health challenge, affecting an estimated 1.28 billion people worldwide. Medical experts highlight the importance of monitoring blood pressure, as many individuals assume maintenance medication alone ensures control. A specific concern is resistant hypertension, a condition where blood pressure remains elevated despite the use of multiple medications at recommended doses.

Research from the University of Vermont suggests that managing hypertension effectively requires a combination of increasing potassium intake and reducing sodium. Specific foods such as bananas, avocados, apricots, and leafy greens are recommended to help stabilize electrolyte balance. The American Heart Association advises limiting sodium intake to a maximum of 2,300 mg per day.

Lifestyle factors also play a critical role. Dietary patterns like the DASH diet, which emphasizes fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, can support cardiovascular health. Additionally, health professionals warn against certain morning habits, such as consuming excessive caffeine or rising too abruptly from bed, which can cause blood pressure fluctuations or orthostatic hypotension.
