Hypertension rising in 30-year-olds due to lifestyle factors

Medical professionals are reporting an increase in hypertension cases among individuals as young as 30. Because high blood pressure often presents no obvious symptoms—such as chest pain or shortness of breath—it is frequently referred to as a ‘silent killer’ that can cause gradual damage to arteries, the heart, and kidneys without warning.

Contributing factors to this trend include poor lifestyle choices, long working hours, increased screen time, irregular sleep patterns, high sodium intake, and the consumption of processed foods. To mitigate risks of heart attack, stroke, and kidney damage, doctors recommend that even healthy-feeling young adults check their blood pressure at least 5 to 10 times a year.

Key management strategies include increasing physical activity—aiming for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week—reducing salt intake, avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol, and following medical advice regarding medication.
