HYROX fitness competition combines running and functional training
HYROX is a fitness competition that combines eight 1km runs with eight functional exercise stations. The standardized format requires athletes to complete a 1km run followed by a specific task, such as the SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, and wall balls.
Success in the sport depends on a combination of running endurance, strength, and mental resilience. Because the functional stations are performed after running, athletes must manage their pacing to handle fatigue in their legs and grip.
Competitors can participate in different divisions, such as the Women’s Open or Women’s Pro, which feature different weight requirements for the stations. For example, in the Women’s Open, the sled push involves 102kg, whereas the Pro division requires 152kg. Training programs typically emphasize progressive development of both strength and cardiovascular capacity to prepare for the specific demands of the race.
