HYROX Tenerife faces scrutiny over sponsorship and venue conditions

The HYROX Tenerife fitness event, held at the Santa Cruz Fairgrounds, has faced scrutiny regarding both its institutional funding and the quality of the athlete experience. Promotur Turismo Canarias approved a sponsorship of 100,000 euros for the event, which was presented by Victum Sports SL with a total budget exceeding 1.07 million euros. Notably, the event received a low score of only 2 out of 6 points regarding its impact on local businesses and employment.

Despite significant institutional backing from the Canary Islands Government, the Cabildo de Tenerife, and the Santa Cruz City Council, participants have reported numerous issues on social media. Complaints include high heat and humidity within the venue, unpleasant odors from food stalls near competition areas, and poor carpet conditions that allegedly hindered the movement of sleds. These conditions have raised concerns regarding the standardization of the competition, as environmental factors may have impacted athlete performance and timing.
